Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) and the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28)
As the year comes to a close, SEMA eagerly anticipates its participation in the upcoming Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) and the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28).
African governments have shown remarkable commitment to promoting the growth of the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) sectors within their respective nations. We anticipate that the discussions at CPHIA will yield fruitful outcomes in exploring avenues through which stakeholders in the SRH landscape can contribute to enhancing the capacities of African countries to secure more funding for SRH.
We are also pleased to highlight that, for the first time at COP 28, there will be two dedicated days for the health agenda. This development underscores the critical importance of health for a nation's prosperity. We expect that significant attention will be paid to sexual reproductive health, recognizing its integral role in human well-being.
The annual International Conference on Public Health in Africa (CPHIA) serves as a unique African-led platform for leaders across the continent to reflect on the lessons learned in health and science and to align on a path forward for building more resilient health systems. The event is scheduled to take place from November 27 to November 30, 2023, in Lusaka, Zambia.
The 'COP' series gathers world leaders, ministers, and negotiators to address climate change and its consequences. These conferences are attended by representatives from civil society, the private sector, international organizations, and the media. This year, the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be hosted at Expo City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
We believe that these two events will bring significant attention to sexual reproductive health as a pivotal factor in improving overall well-being on a global scale.
Webinar: Countries efforts towards improving Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) commodities markets
In October 2023, SEMA in collaboration with CHAI, PharmAccess, RAME, and RESADE as well as Ministries of Health experts from Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and Senegal hosted a webinar to discuss findings from countries' assessment of SRH commodities markets.
The speakers provided an in-depth analysis of the obstacles related to market shaping for sexual reproductive health products at the national level. They also disclosed the concrete measures that country stakeholders are either currently implementing or planning to undertake in order to tackle these challenges.
